‘What our kids need’: no cost meals in WNC schools
Every student in Haywood and Jackson County Schools can expect no cost breakfast and lunch in the coming school year, and Macon County is not far behind in meeting that mark as well.

Since the beginning of the new year, I have seen several photos of Sen. Kevin Corbin, R-Franklin, handing out oversized checks in some of Western North Carolina’s eight counties.
Haywood County Schools recognizes academic success
After the last school year, Haywood County Schools held onto its seventh-place ranking in the state, out of 115 school districts, in academic performance. The school system first attained this historic high-water mark during the 2021-22 school year, prior to which it was ranked 10th.
