Search still on for missing teen
The search for Alec Lansing, the missing 17-year-old in Jackson County, has yet to produce any viable leads. He has not, to the best of investigators’ knowledge, contacted any family or friends, and searchers have found the reflective vest he wore as part of the wilderness therapy group he was with, apparently discarded.
Lansing, an Atlanta resident, walked off from a wilderness camp near Heady Mountain Church Road in the Lake Toxaway area on Monday, Nov. 10 at approximately 2:30 p.m., where he was camping with the Trails Carolina wilderness therapy group. Lansing is 130 pounds and 5'10" with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a red fleece hoodie with black pants and carrying a string pack on his back. A possible sighting was reported at a gas station in Cashiers but is unconfirmed.
Investigators are asking those with connections in Atlanta to spread the word of the search for Lansing so that anyone he may contact there would know to report such contact.
Searchers have provided hundreds of man-hours, with Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies patrolling Forest Service roads and neighborhoods near the camping area where Lansing was last seen, the Civil Air Patrol assisting with aerial searches and missing person fliers being distributed throughout the area. Multiple state and local agencies have assisted with the search.
