Catch the Spirit holds mural fundraiser
“Golden Threads,” a dramatic 24-foot art mural created by Doreyl Ammons Cain for the Shindig on the Green in Asheville, is currently seeking donors to make its installment a reality.
Ammons Cain, of the nonprofit Catch the Spirit of Appalachia in Jackson County, hopes to have the work installed on an outside wall of Pack’s Tavern in downtown Asheville, where it will be within yards of Shindig’s Bascom Lamar Lunsford Stage. A mural plaque placed to the left of the mural will describe Shindig and honor donors to the project. An audio CD with local musicians’ “Stories of Mountain Folk” radio show interviews and an art print of the mural will be placed in a glass case inside Pack’s Tavern for visitors to purchase.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Folk Heritage Committee for on-going Shindig production. The mural will be unveiled in April 2016 with an arts reception for donors. Donors of $100 and more will have their name engraved on a bronze plaque, which will be placed next to the mural. All donors will also receive an invitation to the artist’s reception and mural unveiling.
The project has been approved for the “Power to Give,” an Arts & Sciences Council program in Charlotte. Visit www.power2give.org/go/p/8940 to become a donor.
