Owner of the Sun — “Sharp Tongue”
Setting down deep roots in Jackson County over the past couple of years, Owner of the Sun (Sylva-based by way of Atlanta) is an Americana group, but one whose tone and intent goes far below the surface of you’re atypical “kitchen sink and all” band.
On their debut record, “Sharp Tongue,” the nitty gritty nature of the album brings together a septet of musicians whose talents shine when the sum of all their parts takes the stage, or the studio. Think Shovels & Rope pollinating The Faces, a crossroads where Fleetwood Mac gypsy rag-tag meets Merle Haggard roadhouse honky-tonk — a smell of spilled whiskey and string of broken hearts radiating from the speakers.
“In its entirety, this album is a collection of individual life lessons and thoughts for all to examine and take meaning from, as they wish,” said guitarist KS Laguna. “We constantly dug through our souls for inspiration. Even if you consider yourself to be completely ‘healed’ of experiences you once saw as detrimental or hurtful, there is still a sting associated with bringing those memories to the front of your mind. We put our sanity on the line for our art and will always be grateful for that — we’re stronger and wiser.”
