According to a press release issued by the town just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night, Hites will earn $125,000 per annum and bring more than 30 years of local government experience in North Carolina with him when he starts his new job Aug. 22.

Hites, who also served as the assistant to the city manager in Durham, is a married father of two and earned a Bachelor of Science in political science from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master’s Degree in urban management from American University in Washington, D.C.

The town board unanimously approved hiring Hites following a closed session Aug. 9; he will replace Interim Town Manager Mike Morgan, who took over after Marcy Onieal’s contract was terminated in January.
