Mad Anthony’s to close Saturday
Mad Anthony’s Bottle Shop and Beer Garden on Branner Avenue in Waynesville will close this Saturday, Nov. 19.
“We’ve hit our peak, where we’re at,” said owner David Young, adding that expanding the 100 year-old farmhouse the business currently occupies is unfeasible.
Young didn’t have many details to offer as of press time, but said the business has been actively looking to move since they made news this past summer by engaging in a protracted battle over the legality of their food truck, which sat squarely astride both building codes and vehicular regulations.
The adverse ruling handed down by Waynesville’s Town Board, Young said, wasn’t the whole reason for the move, but did bring him calls from town planners and economic developers in surrounding municipalities.
As a result, Young said they’ve not only considered locations in Waynesville, but in Sylva and Canton as well. Regardless, Young said he hopes to reopen by Jan. 1 in a location where the business can do “a lot more,” possibly even incorporating a commercial kitchen.
