Neglected animals relinquished in Macon County
Macon County Public Health Animal Services, along with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, responded to an animal cruelty complaint on Radio Hill Road May 9 that resulted in the removal of 41 animals.
While investigating the complaint and discussing the matter with the property owner, the officers found a number of animals which were malnourished and not being maintained well. Prior to departing the site, the officers ensured the animals had sufficient water and food for the night.
On the morning of May 10, Animal Services officers, along with staff from the health department and staff from Appalachian Animal Rescue Center, returned to the site. After a short conversation with the property owner, the property owner relinquished 41 animals to Macon County.
The animals relinquished included 17 chickens, 17 dogs and 7 animal carcasses (1 rabbit, 5 chickens and 1 dog).
Animal Services personnel examined all of the surviving animals.
All of the dogs were administered appropriate vaccination and dewormed. Arrangements were made with area individuals and agencies to foster the animals.
Now that the 72 hour holding period has expired, the chickens have found a permanent home, and all of the dogs will be placed up for adoption by the rescue agency they were transferred to.
Macon County Animal Services would like to thank Appalachian Animal Rescue Center and other partnering rescue agencies including Noah’s Ark Companion Animal Hospital and Humane Society of Jackson County.
