Lucas Cody of Bethel Middle School won this year’s Haywood Waterways Association Kids in the Creek T-shirt design contest.

Cody can often be found with a notepad in hand and is currently designing the yearbook cover for Bethel Middle School. He has also designed the logo for a nonprofit organization working with a Haitian orphanage.

For winning the contest, Cody received a Visa gift card from HomeTrust Bank and a private tour of Rikki Tikki Tees Screen Printing and Design Shop, where his artwork will be printed on 650 T-shirts for this fall’s Kids in the Creek participants. First and second runners up in the contest were Kaylee Grace Leatherwood of Bethel Middle School and Skylar Camby of Canton Middle School.

September will mark the 21st year of Kids in the Creek, an environmental education evnet that gives eighth graders a hands-on outdoor learning experience about watersheds, water chemistry and wildlife found in local streams.
