Tremont gets new CEO

Catharine Terry has been hired as the new president and CEO of the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont near Townsend, Tennessee, and is scheduled to start work Sept. 4.

Terry will come to Tremont after serving as CFO for SOAR in Balsam, an ADHD adventure camp and year-round academy. Terry replaces Dr. Jen Jones, who resigned earlier this year.

“It is an honor to lead an organization that allows me to witness people, of all walks-of-life, as each discovers and develops their own connection to nature and to the Park,” Terry said. “I look forward to working with and learning from the passionate staff and dedicated board members as we focus on the growth of this remarkable organization. This is an exciting time to be at Tremont, and I am grateful to be a part of its future.”

A Tennessee native, Terry attended Tremont herself as a sixth-grader and holds a bachelor’s in ecology and environmental biology from Appalachian State University. She has worked in nonprofit administration for nearly 15 years and serves on the board of the Conservation Trust of North Carolina.
