Mount Mitchell gets new leader
Veteran ranger Kevin Bischof has been named to the superintendent’s post at Mount Mitchell State Park in Yancey County.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kevin holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in outdoor recreation and has worked for the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation as a ranger at Gorges, Lake James and Goose Creek state parks, as well as Jordan Lake State Recreation Area.
Bischof succeeds Robert McGraw, who transferred to the superintendent’s post at Gorges State Park in Transylvania County earlier this year. Mount Mitchell State Park was established in 1916 and now encompasses 1,996 acres. It recorded 398,091 visitors in 2017.
