Cashiers humane society needs foster parents
Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society has the perfect solution for those self-quarantine blues. Lift your spirits and brighten your days by temporarily fostering a shelter pet from the animal shelter.

It's truly a win-win: you receive the unconditional love, and the shelter gets an extra space to help save the life of another animal in the community. Best of all, the shelter provides everything you need — food, any necessary medications, arrangements for veterinarian visits, a 24-hour hotline for emergencies, and last but not least, an adorable feline or canine companion who requires absolutely no social distancing at all.

Here is a link to the Foster Parent Application. Then email the completed application to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Or call 828.743.5752 to set up an appointment and bring the application with you. If you are able to provide a permanent home and wish to adopt, even better.  Click here to Adopt a CHHS Shelter Pet.

At our inception 20 years ago, we chose to be different. Unlike other news organizations, we made the decision to provide in-depth, regional reporting free to anyone who wanted access to it. We don’t plan to change that model. Support from our readers will help us maintain and strengthen the editorial independence that is crucial to our mission to help make Western North Carolina a better place to call home. If you are able, please support The Smoky Mountain News.

The Smoky Mountain News is a wholly private corporation. Reader contributions support the journalistic mission of SMN to remain independent. Your support of SMN does not constitute a charitable donation. If you have a question about contributing to SMN, please contact us.
