Haywood County Cares — Gene Williamson

Haywood County Cares — Gene Williamson

After a 30-year career with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Sgt. Gene Williamson retired in 2014, but he didn’t stay retired long. In 2015, he joined the Haywood County Sheriff's Office and has been there ever since.

He is currently assigned to the Justice Center, where he supervises the bailiffs. He said that like everyone else, the use of masks, gloves, hand washing and hand sanitizers have become a common practice, but his role at the Justice Center hasn't changed. They are still there to serve the citizens.

“One of the biggest changes I've seen is that for the most part, people are focusing on the needs of others rather than themselves. We all need to remember what is really important in life. God has blessed me during my career, and I'm blessed for the opportunity I've been given to serve others in our community,” Williamson said.
