Haywood County Schools has developed a Remediation & Summer Jump Start Plan in accordance with the requirements outlined in legislation and guidance provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The Remediation & Summer Jump Start is scheduled for July 27 through Aug. 7.

Performance data for students on special learning plans as well as students at risk academically prior to March 16, 2020, will be utilized in determining participation in the Remediation and Summer Jump Start program. Parents of identified students will be contacted to invite participation in the scheduled Remediation and Summer Jump Start.

Certified teachers will administer reading and math assessments to determine individual student needs and will utilize current assessment data to develop focused instruction for the supplemental summer learning program. High quality instructional materials will be used for interventions that target students’ specific learning needs.

For the safety of our students and staff, our summer learning programs will be in compliance with the requirements of any executive order in effect. This includes requirements on the use of public school buildings, social distancing, and other public health guidelines provided by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Parents or guardians of students who qualify for summer learning programs will make the final decision regarding student participation. If permissible, face-to-face instruction will be provided in small group settings. When face-to-face instruction is not possible, the school system will offer remote options.
