DIY Wreath Making
Holiday decorations have a way of bringing joy into our lives. Whether by their pleasing aesthetic, or by the anticipation created for holiday festivities. Enjoying decorations is even more rewarding (and eco-friendly) when we can make them ourselves. Below is a list of a few wreath-making events in WNC.
Holiday Wreath Workshop
10 - 11:30 a.m. Sat, Dec. 4, with Rachel Brownlee at Reems Creek Nursery
You’ll create a fresh and fragrant Holiday Wreath with instruction from floral artist Rachel Brownlee. Step by step, Rachel will lead us through the process of crafting a Holiday Wreath using a mix of fresh-cut greenery and pinecones…perfect for a festive front door this holiday season. You will take home a ready-to-hang wreath by the end of the workshop!
1 - 2:30 p.m. Sat, Nov. 27, at New Leaf Garden Market
This workshop includes all materials and instruction to customize your own mixed evergreen wreath. We'll start with a 26" Fraser Fir Wreath and show you how to add mixed evergreens and other cuttings, cones and pods to create your own customized wreath. We'll also have an assortment of add-ons like ribbon, berries, sparkles and other embellishments available to further customize your wreath for an additional cost. Your wreath will finish 26-28" in diameter and will last for several weeks if displayed in a cool environment out of direct sun.

Wreaths of Folk Magic and Medicine
3 - 5 p.m. Sat, Dec. 11, at Swannanoa Valley Museum and History Center
The plants that deck the halls at Winter Solstice were not chosen randomly by peoples of the past. Pine, holly, oak, rose hip, and fir: all these trees and plants held powerful edible, medicinal and folkloric uses. In this workshop with professional forager and folklorist Rebecca Beyer, participants will explore the historical and folk magical uses of wreath making plants while crafting a small edible, medicinal and magical wreath to take home.
