Pisgah wildfire nearing full containment
A forest fire that broke out April 27 on the Pisgah National Forest near the Pisgah Inn has been contained, estimated to cover 370 acres of rough terrain.
The fire grew from 200 to 370 acres between April 29 and 30 due mainly to burnout operations, with firefighters removing fuels between containment lines and the fire’s edge to better control the fire’s intensity and secure containment lines. Several roads, including part of the Blue Ridge Parkway, were closed over the weekend but are now reopen. Some trails closures remain.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. About 30 U.S. Forest Service firefighters were assigned to the response.
