Harbor Freight seeks workers for new Waynesville location
More than a year after announcing plans to open a location in Waynesville, popular tool retailer Harbor Freight Tools said via press release on Feb. 7 that construction has begun inside an 18,000-square-foot space vacated by Kmart in 2019.
The privately held retailer will lease the former Kmart for a period of at least 10 years. Founded in Los Angeles in 1977, Harbor Freight Tools now employs more than 25,000 people across 1,300 locations in 48 states, serving 40 million customers.
Currently, the closest Harbor Freight location to Waynesville is on Hendersonville Road in Asheville, but a new location opened in Franklin this past July. According to the Macon County News, that store created between 25 and 30 new jobs.
The Feb. 7 press release from Harbor Freight says the Waynesville location is expected to bring the same amount of jobs to Haywood County, offering competitive starting pay and a best-in-class benefits package, including health care coverage and holidays off.
For the past three years, Forbes has called Harbor Freight one of the nation’s best employers for veterans. The company has also been recognized by diversityjobs.com for its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
