Partner content: Tomato Season
We are coming into peak tomato season in the Southeast and with it comes an abundance of tomatoes in the produce section at your local Ingles Markets as well as backyard gardens.
Besides slicing tomatoes for sandwiches, what can you do with all of those tomatoes? Here are 12 ideas for what to do with those extra tomatoes:
• Homemade tomato or pasta sauce.
• Tomato jam to top your biscuits or meats.
• Add tomatoes, especially grape or cherry tomatoes, to charcuterie boards.
• Use cherry or grape tomatoes as a garnish for drinks.
Related Items
• Pickled tomatoes.
• Salsas to top fish or pork or add to tacos/tortillas/quesadillas.
• Snack on cherry or grape tomatoes. Make skewers with a cube of cheese and cherry tomato.
• Dehydrate tomato slices (you can do this in a normal oven on a low heat).
• Gazpacho (cold tomato soup)
• Ketchup
• Thread cherry or grape tomatoes onto kebab sticks or put in grilling basket and grill along with other vegetables and your meat, chicken or fish.
• Hollow out larger tomatoes and use as a “bowl” for chicken, tuna, chickpea or quinoa/grain salad.
