Blood drive organized in honor of slain trooper, son

The Tye Blanton Foundation will host its seventh blood drive for the American Red Cross on Sunday, Aug. 28.

The drive will be held at Canton’s Central United Methodist Church at 36 Church St., across from the Lamp Factory. Through the previous blood drives, the Tye Blanton Foundation has collected more than 450 units of blood.

These efforts are in memory of state Trooper Shawn Blanton, who was shot and killed a few years ago in a traffic stop on Interstate 40, and his infant son, Tye, who died a short time later.
