The most dangerous woman in America
The historic Rickman Store in Macon County will once again become a stage for one of the most accomplished monologues written by Appalachian playwright Gary Carden.
Lara Chew will perform a one-woman play at 7 p.m. on June 21 about the prominent labor and community organizer Mary Harris.
At the end of the 19th century Harris was considered by the government and the robber barons to be “the most dangerous woman in America” but who was much loved and revered by the workers who named her “Mother Jones”.
Five years ago, Carden wrote the play “Mother Jones” to make sure that the voice that brought up so many civil liberties to benefit all of us will not be ignored or silenced.
The Friends of the Rickman Store invite the community to participate in this benefit event. Tickets are available at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce and at the Rickman Store that opens every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reservations can be made by email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
