Folkmoot 4.01K Race set for July 14

out 5kraceThe Folkmoot 4.01K race through downtown Waynesville will be held at 8 a.m. on July 14.

This year, organizers decided to tweak the traditional 5K Folkmoot race by shifting the course from Hazelwood to downtown Waynesville and offering participants a unique distance — 4.01 kilometers, or roughly 2.5 miles.

The race was named after the popular retirement plan, 401(k). Since there is no similar race of this distance, male and female runners will not only compete to win awards; they will have the designation of setting a world record. A “Kids’ K” run/walk looping around downtown Waynesville will be held after the 4.01K.

Cost for the 4.01K run/walk is $20 before July 14 and $25 on race day. The Kids’ K race registration is $8. Registration forms are available at the Folkmoot Friendship Center and www.LeeTiming.com. Packet pick-up and race day registration will be held at the First Baptist Church of Waynesville beginning at 6:45 a.m. All participants will receive a Folkmoot 4.01K race T-shirt. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers, masters division, and the top three male and female finishers in their age divisions.
