Learn from metal artist at Shelton House talk
Metal artist Grace Cathey of Haywood County will display her work and talk about her artistic journey from 7 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 24 in the barn behind the Shelton House in Waynesville.
Cathey is a noted metal artist and shares her gift shop and metal garden with her husband’s auto shop. Included in her numerous award-winning art pieces is a White House Christmas tree ornament. In addition to talking about her artistic journey, she will share ideas about how to incorporate metal decorative pieces into outdoor spaces and landscape designs.
The Shelton House, built in 1875 by Stephen Jehu and Mahala Conley Shelton, is open for visitors from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The home was purchased in 1977 to become the Museum of N.C. Handicrafts, maintaining the legacy of the Shelton family.
