Turkey operation tests positive for bird flu
A turkey breeding operation in Wayne County has tested positive for High Path Avian Influenza. The positive sample was first identified by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Veterinary Diagnostic Lab in Raleigh.
This is the first case of high path avian influenza in commercial poultry in North Carolina since January 2025.

Save hummingbirds, clean feeders
To the Editor:
There has been a notable decrease in the number of birds coming to my feeder this year, and my neighbors report a similar decrease. This could be due, in part, to a fungal disease caused by unclean feeders.
Some hummingbirds are contracting a fungus at unclean feeders which causes their tongues to swell and results in their death.
