A week after Amy Elizabeth Curry was charged in federal court with wire fraud and money laundering, search warrants reveal how the Waynesville woman allegedly embezzled at least $1.5 million from a Haywood County senior living and care facility. 

The Clyde Fire Department’ assistant chief and his wife have been charged with embezzling money from the department. 

A Jackson County man who pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $95,000 from an enterprise of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians will spend 18 months in prison and pay nearly $200,000 in restitution, according to a sentence U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger handed down Feb. 18.

Kimberly Michelle Bishop, the former director of Macon County’s Board of Elections, was recently sentenced to six months in prison for embezzling public funds.
