WCU lifts mask mandate
In a campuswide email sent this afternoon, Western Carolina University announced that its mask mandate will expire on Saturday, Feb. 26, due to declining COVID-19 metrics on campus and in the surrounding community.
Masks now optional in Jackson Schools
Effective Monday, Feb. 21, masks will be optional in Jackson County Schools. The decision was made at an emergency board meeting Thursday night and comes on the heels of updated COVID guidance and new direction from North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.
Masks required in Jackson County buildings
After a three-month lapse, Jackson County has re-instituted its masking requirement for county facilities. The mandate applies when entering “interior public spaces” and being within 6 feet of another person.
Haywood School Board reverses course, mandates masks
At an emergency meeting Saturday, the Haywood County School Board voted 5-2 to mandate masks and enact a plan that will adjust masking policy based on the weekly averages of positive COVID-19 cases.
