Policy positions are now clear

To the Editor:

Harris is focused on financial policies to benefit the middle classes. She proposes to reinstate child tax credits that Congress refused to extend and to add a new tax credit to the parents of newborns; provide tax credits to builders of starter homes, to first-time home buyers and to small business start-ups.

Harris will be bad for the country

To the Editor:

This is in response to Cory Vaillancourt’s two articles in The Smoky Mountain News’ August 21 edition.

Mr. Vaillancourt stated that Trump is struggling to communicate effectively against Harris. Millions of voters, Republicans, independents, and yes, even Democrats, would beg to differ.

This conservative says it’s OK to disagree

I wish to respond in a general way to the two columns on the Opinion page of the Dec. 27-Jan 2024 edition of The Smoky Mountain News — to Scott McLeod’s and to guest columnist Rob Schofield’s.

Mount Pisgah platform under construction

Crews are now working to reconstruct the viewing platform atop Mount Pisgah in the Pisgah National Forest, a project that is expected to take about two weeks to finish.
