Sponsored: Healthy ways to make your oatmeal more exciting

ingles dietitianQUESTION: I get bored with my plain old oatmeal. Can you give me some ideas on some different things to add to it?

Answer:  Try cooking your oatmeal with milk or flavored non-dairy milk ( like vanilla soy/coconut or almond) to make it more creamy. You can also add in some dried fruit like raisins or chopped dates while cooking the oatmeal.

Dried fruits are naturally sweet and will also contribute more fiber, vitamins and minerals. Frozen fruit like blueberries, cranberries, strawberries or even cherries will also add natural sweetness, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Once the oatmeal is cooked, top it with nuts like almonds, walnuts or pecans or even stir in some nut butter like peanut, soy or almond to add protein or some fresh fruit. If you like a slightly sweeter oatmeal sprinkle on some brown sugar or a bit of honey and cinnamon.
