Ask Leah! The Ingles Dietitian

Sponsored: All about quinoa

ingles dietitianQUESTION: I have heard a lot about quinoa but I don’t know how to cook it.

ANSWER: Quinoa is often called an “ancient grain” and it is a relative of spinach. It is primarily cultivated in South America and is gluten-free.

Quinoa cooks a lot like a rice. Check your package or box of quinoa to see if it has been pre-rinsed, if not, rinse before cooking.

To cook quinoa it is a 1: 1 1/2 cups water ratio - 1 cup quinoa to 1 1/2 cups water. Once the quinoa is cooked you can use it like you would rice and enjoy it as a side dish, add it to salads or even make it into sweet puddings.
