Partner content: Food Facts — On the Color of the Egg’s Shell
The color of the egg’s shell is based on the type or breed of the hen. Some hens produce white eggs, others brown, blue and even green eggshells.
The color of the shell is due to the genetics of that hen that influence the pigment of the shell. The color of the shell of an egg has nothing to do with the nutrition of the contents of the egg itself.
