Partner content: On Vitamin/Mineral/Herbal Supplements
Have you been advised by your MD or PCP to take a vitamin or mineral or herbal supplement?
“Dietary supplements are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before they reach the market.
This means the manufacturer is responsible for ensuring products are properly labeled and safe. Unfortunately, mislabeled and contaminated (or adulterated) products are not uncommon.”
How can you choose the right one?
1. Be sure & ask your MD/PCP about the correct amount/dose you should take. Too much of certain vitamins/minerals and herbs can be harmful & may interact with foods or medications. Your Ingles Pharmacist can also advise you about interactions.
2. Look for 3rd party certifications like:
Related Items
• BSCG Certified Drug Free
• Informed Sport
• NSF Certified Sport
• USP Verified
“Third-party certification means an independent organization with no ties to the manufacturing company has evaluated a dietary supplement and verified its quality and manufacturing process”
(Labels like “NonGMO” or “GMO-free” are NOT a 3rd party certification!)
3. Be skeptical of someone who tries to sell or recommend a specific brand of supplements, especially if they financially benefit by selling or recommending that brand.
