The Lion's Gate Portal: The astrological event and how it affects you

The Lion’s Gate is an astrological event resulting from the Sun aligning with the star Sirius and Earth. It takes place during Leo season, opening a portal of the heightened cosmic energy of abundance. It lasts from July 28-Aug. 12, peaking on Aug. 8. This year was a more powerful year in that Aug. 8, 2024, numerically reduces to 8-8-8 (8th month, 8th day, 2024+2+0+2+4=8 year). *The number 8 numerologically is the balance between the spiritual and material world.

I walked through the house in rather a cocky fashion on Aug. 6 this year. For the first time in several weeks, I felt a spring in my step and a bit of hope on the horizon. I had spent the month of July with a sinus infection that just would not quit me. Nearing the end of my run of antibiotics, I could see a light at the end of my tunnel. When I awoke on the 7th, I wished I had had the foresight to paint the blood of a sacrificial lamb over my front door because not even the hyssop plant would protect me from the power of the Lion’s Gate energy that was headed my way.

I woke up with a pounding headache, nausea and sinus issues galore! I was bedridden for two days wondering how my health could have taken such a drastic turn for the worse! Always one to be sensitive to the energy of the moon, I did not yet put together the astrological event and my personal plague. Encouraged by Steve to embrace the down time, I touched base with my inner self. To fully receive the energy of Lion’s Gate, one must be prepared to part with old fears. Moving through this portal can be disorienting so I took the cues from my body and became my own mother nurturing myself in all the ways my mother used to. This influx of starry energy was seeking to expand my dark corners by bringing me into harmony with my personal power.

Still feeling the influx of energy from the 8th, one day later I answered a call hearing a sweet voice on the other end greet me in a loving way. As the conversation progressed, he gently shared some disappointing news about people I would have once upon a time considered to be my ride or die.

Betrayal is a big word for me. I have never enjoyed its company and hate when it drops by unannounced. As it roared and paced about, I demanded that it leave immediately. It studied me from afar deciding to conserve its energy and laid down at my feet. No longer feeling the fight or flight response to imminent danger, I dropped my defenses and welcomed this subversive energy into my den. I asked it point blank why it darkened my doorstep. With my heart firmly in its clutches, it said that it came to remind me that I am the hunter, not the prey.

This king of beasts shared: People are not possessions. Whether they are family or friends, the nature of the relationship does not afford you the right to circumvent their free will. Whether you call them grandmother, mother, sister, spouse, or friend, their actions are demonstrating their preferences. They are serving your Spiritual advancement by titrating your discomfort down to the microgram. You have the option to change your beliefs or your willingness to participate in those relationships. The peace you are searching for comes through your relationship with yourself. It is yours to cultivate, protect and defend. If you choose to surrender it for the sake of another, it can never root deeply within you.

What is abundance? What does it mean to be prosperous? This Lion’s Gate season ushered in a new definition of abundance for me. No longer demanding that I cower in its presence, betrayal metamorphized into simply being a word. This experience taught me to value the people I choose to be in my tribe. Through their actions and words, they bring peace and joy to my world.

Our power is only permitted to grow in the container we define. When we judge our experiences, we limit our potential. When we spend time in relationship with the caverns of our soul, we source that power. As we challenge the old forms we simultaneously open to new ones that allow us to tap into a bigger pool of energy.  This force is limitless enabling us to achieve greater results with less effort! Conversely when we pass judgement on ourselves and others, we deplete our resources, as this energy is low vibrational. Unable to replenish itself, it feeds on negativity and inveigles us to behave in ways that are contrary to our true spirit.

How did this season of abundance serve you? Think back to the 8th of August. What were you cultivating in your garden? Were you creating an emotionally spacious environment to churn the rotting compost of your past into a rich soil for your future?  Were you sewing new inspirations? Were you spending time in solitude reflecting on the life you have growing? When we turn the number eight on its side, we see the infinity symbol which means as above, so below. It is symbolically seen in the Tarot through the Magician, the first major arcana card. He holds in one hand a wand pointing towards the heavens, and with the other he points down to the ground indicating our personal power wields its influence either by limiting or freeing us through degradation or splendor. With our inner peace hanging in the balance, the choice is ours to make.
