I’ll admit that I am not always the best about using our freezer to its full advantage; but here are some things I do like to keep in the freezer.

Cheese pizza — I like to look for sales on good quality cheese pizzas and keep a couple on hand for those nights when we don’t feel like cooking or eating out.  I can quickly top a cheese pizza with vegetables like sliced tomatoes, spinach or even zucchini slices or fresh arugula (once out of the oven).

My husband and I both really like anchovies so those are often an add on.

Frozen cooked shredded chicken — I can quickly make up a chicken noodle soup with this shredded chicken.  Defrost it and add it to rice or pasta along with vegetables for a quick casserole.

Frozen mixed vegetables — a bag of frozen mixed vegetables is handy for making soups or casseroles.

Ground meat — Ground meat in a one-pound pack is helpful to have in the freezer and can be defrosted in the microwave or thawed in the fridge.

Related Items

Chicken breasts — Keeping some chicken breasts in the freezer is also a good idea.  Transfer to your fridge the night before and then plan on using for dinner the next day.

I also usually have overripe bananas in a freezer bag that I can drop into the blender and use to make smoothies.

What about you? What do you like to keep stocked in your freezer?
